As i dont play Euromir3 at all and only really used to the old maps, i thought i would chuck out a Vs. type argument to those who have played Euromir3 on there views of the Smaller maps.

Now my initial Views are such (ignore the size of the files etc for now - this is not the Question)....

As the maps are smaller, means less area to run around, places such as BW for example on old maps seems a bit of a waste as there is loads of mobs Spawned but once you get past a certain level these roam free from harm as people ignore them. One of the reasons for a Horse in MIR3 was the fact the maps are a lot bigger, so a horse is good as it enables you to get to caves quickly - do the smaller maps not make this pointless now??

I can gear the server to be old or new - im not fussed that a different client is need - I was just after getting a feeling on Why the smaller, sparser maps are good or not...

The smaller maps are good I found with the big maps thats theres tons of wasted space And when it comes to private servers that dont have that many players places are empty Now at least in the new maps theres 3 main towns and they have to be used (For translating books) and they all have there own usefull areas

yeh with p servers you hardly see anyone on the much larger maps, but the exploring is alot better.
with the smaller euro maps the areas are just chucked all over, prajna isnt an island, the desert suddenly turns to grass, bw is now just a palace, there are no large towns, and so no good places to add npcs.

tbh, i hate the small maps, places just dont fit where they are put. yes horses are still useful because the maps are STILL large, but only in the sense that its open field.

If i played euromir for a few straight months then i might actually like the maps as much as the ei ones, but for now, the ei ones are just ALOT better made, with higher detail and everything looks like it should go there.

and so are all towns with old maps now 2
think of all the special npc located in ginko or border for instance

though the larger maps may appear to be a waste of resources it isnt that bad at all cause the server now dynamicly spawns only populated areas as u may have noticed already ;)
another + for the large map is a better game feeling u get cause of the better impression of a real fantasy world with wide areas to explore

only + for the smaller maps is imo the point that especialy new players on underpopulated p server will meet each other more quickly

though the large maps on Olymp with an average Playercount at evening of 50 (with constantly new joining players) now r just right with almost every town now at least populated a little and large cities like bw and mw always populated well

On another thought, ref the maps, the quest system in place now (JOB) relies on the npc telling you to go see another NPC but if you start with the new maps your going to have some overcrowed towns to be honest. I saw this in effect on a G3 Server I downloaded, the number of quests included = 0 as they probably found it easier to rip them all out and concentrate on the NPCs as per normal.

Now once you go down that road - your back to my eyes in 2.9 lands - kill the mobs - sell your kit, go kill another mob..

Now is it only me that see's this but wemade have removed a lot of the graphical looks which were not important but added to the look and feel. Why on earth they are trying to make MIR3 the same size as MIR2 is beyond me to be honest - almost like a backward step if you ask me, more and more people are getting broadband, HD's are dirt cheap and DVD blanks cost 10p.

Anyhow, maybe at some point I may have a play with the look and feel of Euromir to see what all the fuss is about but correct me if Im wrong, dont P Server dudes keep adding MORE maps rather than take them away??? Most people hang aboot in BW anyhow...

wasnt QGO supposed to switch to the big maps after beta? i always thought they used the smaller setup to test their systems and give the few (at the beginning) beta players a better chance of not getting lost or finding each other more fast
also i guess they started up with a relatively cheap hardware setup (though they suggested the opposite) and didnt want it overtressed with big setup..buts thats just a guess ;)

if i would work for QGO i would more than hurry to switch to the big setup..imo a big part of the fantasy feeling gets lost with small setup to be honest

Well as i was playing about - I added the Euromir3 map to server + used euromir client - never bothered with mob spawns + npcs etc just pure maps to see what all the fuss was about.

My view is that the maps were made in ther elunch break to be honest - Grass everywhere, a few huts and took me not long to ride from one side to another in BW.. After trying them, I cannot see myself going down the road to re-creating Euromir3 tbh but if they float anyones boat I have the required info for the maps etc plus spawns and npc. Its all chinese as i grabbed the entire server from there forum, as the files stand there is no quests in, Im guessing they are slowly adding to the files as they go...
