When I said this before some addicts did take offence... But mir is a no skill ancient game that consists of nothing more than a nostalgic player base giving some short life to these private servers...

The only way to keep that player base is through regular weekly / monthly updates.... This will never happen in a private server, or an official server for that matter.

The game is nothing more than grind.. It takes no planning, it takes no coordination, it takes no skill. All it takes is a fast PC and the ability to sit on your ass for 12 hours a day whacking the same mobs over and over , which no one outside of lomcn is willing to do. This is why this game never sets off officially.

Put a "pro" on a slow PC and have a noob on a fast PC and watch the noob steam roll the "pro" ... Now do this with games like starcraft and see the result.. When a game requires no skill to progress and is nothing more than a grind , people get bored quickly.
For the most part you are right. The gameplay itself is dull, requires next to no skill and more repetitive than pretty much any game around at the moment, but lets face it, in my opinion, Mir has never survived this long on its amazing gameplay. Its built around a community and the people you play with. If all the people I enjoyed playing AceMir with still played, I would still be there playing as well. It starts out with a couple of your mates dropping out, then more follow, then eventually the entire group has just left and I think this pattern is what happens with most people in the end....

I'd agree with the majority of that including that it's mainly nostalgia keeping Mir players coming back for more punishment but there's also the fact that when Korea develop these grindy sandbox MMOs the daft publishers over here "westernise" them claiming we don't like grind, we don't like sandbox and we don't like loss in a game, well I for one like all of the above.

Mir isn't the only game left untouched by these meddlesome western publishers but it's part of a rare breed and that's why it still keeps me entertained. You wont find a community like the Mir community on any of the MMOs I've played over the past 12 years and that's mainly down to how the games are tailored.

sam you just need to find out what you really want, since you are the last man in the team working on this..

so if you wish to keep on bug fixing then you can easily keep the dedi only since the costs are very small at the end of the day.
else if you thing you can't because of your free time then this is another issue.

there is no use in keeping the server online if you can't bug fix and add new content for maintaining the playerbase since this will bring to no donations coming in

so just think about it for a while.

you can have money from donation campaigns on lomcn, also from gameshop or direct donations.
in gameshop you can add soo many things which will not change gameplay and balance.. for example:
- special weapons which have only different skins but the same stats of already ingame weapons which are very affordable
- special tele's which get you directly out of caves but not into floors within the cave itself
- change gender, hairstyle
- low pet rentals like blackmaggots / wedgemoths

we surely need to avoid the server files been released because i understand that without a server to work on then probably you will not bug fix anymore.. i guess at the end of the day most people are just scared to loose another time a good server

What he said.
Did you want me to use smaller words?
OK here's what I said
Lomcn community does not seem able to co operate. Each person seems to want to "work" on the files just for themselves. Each wants to put their own slant onto the game. Few of which work that well.
Making players overpowered and making the rest of the game easier happens on a lot of servers.
That better?

The other community are the ones that play. There arent that many of them nowadays. Having many servers with only a few players isnt as much fun as one or two servers with many players.

Hey Guys,

So we are going to concentrate on a release of the AM2 Server files so the focus is going to be taken away from the actual server, as and when we do updates to the files we plan to release on this server before hand for the purpose of testing as well as first come to players of AM2.

Now, as most of you know the team have mostly disbanded leaving myself doing the work for the last couple of months and Milo paying the full whack of the server (I have rent + bills and couldn't commit to the contribution from the start). Milo is moving into his own place at the end of the month and cannot afford to pay the full whack for the server hosting as well as rent + bills.

Milo has made the last payment he is going to for the dedi which gives us up to the 19th October, at which point if there isn't enough money in the pot the server will close pending until we find some free hosting.

If you wish to keep the server alive, then please donate via paypal to [email protected].

I don't mind putting a gameshop in for rewards, but the rewards would be completely cosmetic (sex changes, hair changes etc etc).

Thoughts are always welcomed.

Price for dedi is $130, £82.

Sam

at that price a month me and my bro would glady pay that if it would keep the server up contact me on here if thats good for you sam to talk about it

You lose. Personal remarks mean you cant think of anything else to say
Standard boring mother/grandmother insult. Standard response :- My grandmother is dead.
Doubt any hair at all left anywhere. Probably all liquid by now.

Lets hope Sam keeps on doing what he does and puts up a server that the playing community can enjoy (about 300 people) rather than pleasing the community that works on files(about 6. More?)
Sam might release the files when he is ready. He said he will.
I would rather he put up the new server and maintained it until everything is the way he wants it to be before any release.

Then why are you here? :)
Indeed - Maybe he has a Crystal ball? Well its broke :P Only reason this one closed was to allow some intense coding without the moaning, as well as allowing everyone to start again on a fresh and level playing field :P

Is there any issues with the source going down the route of where Heroes went ?

(as is my understanding)

1 common set of files on git, with ongoing bug section, that gets rev'd each time someone does a fix ? As I could figure out, in their own time ?

That way, if people want to host - then fine. Each time a rev comes about they'd each be able to go and git.

The only fear I'd have with the current source is people going in different directions with it and not releasing to each other as a result. Hosted servers being different in terms of variables/mobs/maps/exp, really doesn't matter imo, as long as the Holy Grail remains constant.

Like it or not, like each other or not, we're all here for the same fundamental reason.
