..What a load of crap... 150-200 different players logging on a month say, with half donating the maximum a month (i suggested) 75-100 players, that's a minimum of £560 - £750... Add that to the love the team have for working on the files and reward they get for us playing it, that's surely sufficient wouldn't you say team?

You live in a dream-world mate.

Not a single "None-Profit" "for the love of the game" server has lasted over 6-12 months.

In the ten year history of these forums.

The reality is, this is a capitalist world, time is money my friend and while they may have the time and patience now, sooner or later a time is going to come when they don't, and if they aint making no money, there aint no motivation to carry on.

Which results in a dead server ^_^, regardless if costs are met or not, Humans are genetically and naturally selfish creatures, you cant feed your family and put a roof over there heads on good intentions.

While im not saying its "Impossible" that this server will last over 12 months, i am saying statistically its Shelf life is alot shorter without a Profit model, than with a profit model, because when there lives get busy the first things people ditch/sack of are hobbys/none profit recreational tasks.

If you think your ever going to have a professional run, long term server with regular updates your all going to have to pull your heads of your own arses and come to terms with the fact a game shop is needed, a team that makes 2-4k a month is going to be alot more motivated to deliver consistent quality content, than one that just covers the costs.

There is some sense in that noggin of yours after all <3

Exactly, these guys most likely have quite reasonable jobs already. Average of £600-£700 on top, a month covering costs and giving them a few nights out here and there should be enough to keep it ticking over I would have thought.

Lol HMRC.....

If your making that much money you can pay Income tax on it, HMRC arnt going to question or research it, unless wemade bring it to their attention, which they wont, although i dont know any server owners whos ever paid Income tax and scorp/3h team in there peak easy made 4k+ a month. HMRC couldnt catch a cold, let alone a tax avoider.

You are all deluded if you think people are going work full time, + Deliver a quality MMORPG, no-one has the patience to sustain that over 3-5 + years.

Unless there's something in it for them.

Richens your idea is total bollox, 95% of the server population wont give jack **** if there's nothing in it for them, the majority of people are too spiteful for that and will rely on other people to pick up the slack.

You Cant argue with the logic of a Server with a Profit making model, WILL recieve more attention/dedication than one without.

If you honestly think that, then so be it. Donator comes on the players 'character view' area though, wouldn't you feel a bit unfaithful if you didn't have that 'title' and played a lot, I would anyway.

Either way, my idea I still stand by that there should be no benefit in 'donating'.

If you really think there's no such worry with HMRC (which I also agree with), and the server team needs money to keep them going and interested in the longevity of the server, then screw it, make it a 'mandatory donation' p/month £5.50 a or around that area.

I have to agree with nightscare, no one is about to make a server and not make money from it otherwise it would be a waste of your time, but personally, i feel that server owners need to own the trust of the community before adding a game shop, i don't think they should be added in day 1, they should at least pay for the server for 2-3months minimum before introducing one.

Puts me right off when i see a upcoming server ad with Gameshop details already there and the server isn't even live.

Sam said himself he enjoys doing it as a hobby, I think money would just be a bonus to him & the team after paying the server running costs that is.

why is everyone jumping the gun? sam has said many times that he does this as a hobby and the rest of the team....Your all just used to playing servers where its £500 for mir kit or w.e.

Yes i agree with you nightscare money does keep people interested but mir doesn't need weekly updates lol.

Of course its a capitalist world and very few people do anything without some kind of reward. BUT
everyone that plays knows that the free versions don't last long BUT
the donation versions dont last long once the owner has made some cash OR
the donation versions are corrupt(not all of them) OR
the donation versions are dominated by people who pay a lot of money to look like they are good players which takes away other players motivation for doing much of anything seeing as they will be out levelled out statted and outnumbered by people grovelling to the rich or making money out of them.
..............................................................
Most of the people who play Mir these days could manage to pay £8 a month. Those that cant can find someone to pay for them.
So in the game shop sell something everyone needs to play the game. A slightly better armour, say +1 amc which expires 7 days, (NOT heaven or crystal or dark) take all the 22+ armours out of the drop files.
This would be like a subscription and guarantee a basic income then you can add anything else which doesn't affect the game to generate extra.
If people want to play Mir then they will no matter what.
If the server is to last, making enough cash is important but make sure that money doesn't win ingame.

i say if you collect donations for game shop items, invest on a 2nd, 3rd server or a better host PC and keep adding servers

If its a hobby, then no-one should expect Longetivity/regular updates ect ect.

Which everyone expects and instantly complains/bitches/Moans about constantly thus making this "Hobby" into a living nightmare for Sam and all he will want to do is shoot each and every single one of you in the testicles with a shotgun and leave you bleeding in the remote Sahara desert until you die.

Thats how i felt when i ran a server anyway......

most players look for a fresh start after awhile, if you run 3-5 servers its more likely the stick around for longer. they switch servers

servers are so easy and cheap to launch. I even thought of something crazier like buying 26 dell dual core pcs and launching like 10 servers lmao

is fishing not a good idea for this? on usa all i donated for was fishing items. you could have other stuff from fishing not gems for example crafting mats/ things like eals and the fish were pretty good pots tbh just need to drop more. that way you dont have ppl running round with exp boosts/super stats but still adds income to server. let alone it gives people something to do for 2 hours a day. slows progression a little making your content last slightly longer.

"Most" players in fact don't look for a fresh start, if they want one, make another character? They look for the population, no server with 5 players will last 5 minutes, its boring as hell with no one to hunt/talk to or PK.

I won't even bother to mention to masses amounts of money that would be thrown down the drain purchasing multiple servers to have players only on 1 of them.

Prob the most retarded idea i've ever heard....

Lol some of these ideas are the worst iv ever heard sorry not being awful but to the person who said make armour 'slightly' better than the normal that expires after 7days and take 22+armours out of game is just stupid. Yes donations will be the one thing that will keep the server open yet there are people out there whom don't want to donate so basically what it comes down to in that context is if you don't donate don't play, that's utter bull ****! Don't get me wrong ill happily donate to help keep the server alive I'm just thinking realistically and thinking of others not just myself like a lot of you guys are.
