Hi I have a variable IP address, but I do not want to have a server on the hamashi, so I decided to put on a no-ip Could someone write me where I have to change the IP on the server to the no-ip that everything was okay?

Thanks

Once you have your no-ip or dyndns address, then this goes in place of IPs that are required for online connection - This also includes the HL

ok so i use the ip address or the web address supplied?

no-ip.org
samuraimir3.no-ip.org 86.blah.blah.blah

lol

The 86.Blah.blah.blah is the ip shown on no-ip next to the bit where it shows you the no-ip.org address. i don't know if that is my dynamic ip address or if that is the ip address they have given me lol

don't forget to download the no-ip client.

install it on your pc so it will update that web address when your ip changes.

right, lemme get this right. i put the webaddress in tbl_selectgateips, set it for the localip in hl_regserver.ini, and in !serverinfo.txt?

I've got the no-ip client installed on server pc. Can't I just use the ip address given there instead of the webaddress or won't that work?

You have to use the DNS as the IP address is yours anyway, as it's being read back from the NO-IP client

Though however a 86.xxx.xxx.xxx is a static IP and so shouldn't need NO-IP in order to work.

see this is the problem, my ip address changes every couple of days. One day it'll be like 86.28.168.158 and then like a day or 2 later it will be something completely different like 86.58.123.56 for instance. It's really stupid. I spoke to my isp about it and they said they only offer dynamic ip addresses, and that under no circumstances can they give anyone static ip addresses.

Anyway, what do i put in tbl_selectgateips as it wont accept web addresses obviously.

Cause it's to long - You need to shorten the name down to something like sam3.no-ip.biz

Usually the 86 prefix is static - Whos the ISP

Ok I've changed the build of the sql table TBL_selectgateips and it's accepted the full length web address :P Put the web address in !serverinfo.txt as so:
127.0.01,samuraimir3.no-ip.org:7200

Anywhere else I need to put it as it won't allow me to connect properly. I can get through the first gate as it shows server online, then I get the connection failed at selectchar gate.

my isp is virginmedia :S my ip WAS static when it was NTL but since then gone to pot lol.

if it doesn't work with that file, then you can use ip instead.

you do have control over your server anyway, so you can update.

it's the client you want it to be dynamic.
