Of course the user count would take a massive hit if this change went live, you yourself admit you will not play unless the change is made, why would you assume the opposite (which is less drastic, to be impossible).Everyone who's saying no and that the server usercount will drop is talking bullshit, you know you will continue to play even if it did change, because there isn't any other good servers worth playing.
Look at it from a modern gaming scene, PvP and PvE on other games progress through gear(and skill) alone and it works very well. on Mir it is made easier for guilds who have certain skills, they will dominate the server and make the lesser guilds feel depressed because they can't manage certain bosses with missing skills.
I more then likely won't return if this doesn't happen, but that's just me :P good thing D3 feels a lot nicer since RoS and Wildstar is due soon enough that D3 can keep me busy till then ^^
Modern day gaming for MMO's has gone on a massive downhill spiral, the like of World of Warcraft hands everything to you on a plate, it use to be a really amazing game but now it bleeds subscribers like mad and extremely easy. Diablo 3 is the same, when it was first release it was a massive challenge, they have watered it down so much that its not worth anytime. With the RoS handing out legendary/set items like candy it just seems awful. You then mention Wildstar, the game itself is pretty poor and I don't like the theme, but do you really expect to be able to full kit on that easy with their raid system being 40man? Unless copious amounts of loot is dropping and the bosses are dirt easy, its going to be a massive chore, one similar to hunting items in Mir except you won't be able to do anything solo.
People like you are one of the reasons that the MMO gaming industry is where it is today, wanting hand outs and not willing to put in effort, people use to enjoy MMO'ing and spending hundreds of hours on their characters over years but most of that has changed now and this entitlement attitude has ruined it.
Just my thoughts on your opinion and how you should leave one of the last grind MMO's alone to its niche player base its intended for.
