Bout time ^^

--

I know some of you never see a tele other than for football or porn, and that the rest of you are so glued to intelligence sucking sites that your blissfully unaware of what 'news' is. Therefore I posted it for you in all its glory ^^.

Those of you who were scarred of the Y2K bug, should be stirring gravy in your pants in around 20 seconds from now. Everyone else... well I don't need to point out what you already know.

Have phun, and always do your coursework weeks in advance of the deadline... unlike me sitting here at 2:40am ;)

We all knew it was coming :( Well, though's of us who watch TV.

There must be a way to prevent Humans from getting it though, well, a way which doesn't include a Vaccine which hasn't yet been tested -_- lol :P

well gsk claims to have a viable vaccine for the original strain that can be modified once a common contagion has settled down, and have enough ready to treat 2/3 of the uk within a week... its hardly gonna b the 1918 influenza outbreak again. we've come along way since then. only prob is its a morphic virus. as u follow cases of it across europe its been gradually mutating.

important quotes:

Government plans are based on a quarter of the human population being infected at some point during a pandemic. This could rise to 50% in a worst case scenario.

The virus may hit in several waves coming either weeks or months apart.

All age groups will be at risk, though children and otherwise fit adults may be most vulnerable.

Older people might turn out to have some residual immunity due to having been exposed to a similar flu strain earlier in their lives.

The illness is likely to hit sufferers harder than "normal" influenza, with more people developing severe prostration, viral pneumonia and complications or dying.

The likely fatality rate is not yet known, but the government is using a possible overall figure of 48,400 deaths for planning purposes.

The total number of deaths in the UK per week is expected to rise to at least double the normal level of 12,000 at the peak of a pandemic.

At least a third of flu deaths could be in the under-65s, compared with the normal rate of less than 5%.

this is actually extremely worrying

Btw I aint worried, people panicked about sars as well and well that didnt kill millions of us

say that about the 1918 influenza pandemic, or even the black death. we're way overdue for a population killer

This flu is deadly, yes. However, it is not as threatening at this point in time as it could be, simply because, it cannot spread from human to human (yet). So most people will think (at the moment) that alot of us are safe, and it won't kill is, which is true. But IF it ever manage's to go from human to human, then we will all be threatened for sure. But we just have to hope that it doesn't start to go from human to human, and that it just die's off (which is rare).

I just hope there is a cure for it before it get's worse, or should i say if it get's any worse.

EDIT: i had to re type the last line. I was talking and typing, and it kind of mixed together :P

ash pretty much has it bang on. If it gets to the point where it can spread from human to human itll be accross the globe in days, but until then we're safe.

Yep, i am sure that they (meaning the government etc) will find a possible cure/solution before it hits the point where it spread's from human to human and kills most of the population of the world.

thank you ive been saying that for months. people think its being callous saying we're due a population "culling".. but we are. look through the history books. theyre full of examples of how pandemics, natural disasters, and wars have cropped the exponential reproductive rate of humans. its natures balance. im not saying we shouldnt try to cure this and any loss of life is gonna be tragic. but if we completely prevent any natural instance like this from happening we're gonna choke our planet completely. earth is already screwed. ur grandkids will have to buy oxygen masks for their kids just to leave the house.

True. But from what i read, you are saying that they should just let bird flu do it's thing? I don't think they should because if they did, then it COULD wipe out the entrie planet. I say could because i am not sure lol :P

But i agree with you on the "earth is already screwed" quote :)
