Or will you be turning a profit?
will you declare it to HMRC if it does indeed turn a profit?
will you split it among the team?
who is "you" is also another good question.

Can you not remove the "shop" and just have a donations target for Quarterly years. once said quota is full;, you may take more donations but only to redistribute that money back to those that originally donated.

For example if Adam pays the whole year for you in Janruary.
when Ben pays half a year in february you give Adam back half his money.
If Charlie pays a third of a year in march, you give back Adam and Ben back that money as the yeat is already paid.

essentially a balancing system to ensure no profit is taken?
Are you for profit?

Did you have an accountant on OS? (Enjoyed that server very much - thank you)
Does anyone here care? Do they just want to be able to play with minimum fuss and without feeling ripped off? Maybe they are gonna see how it goes and then decide what to do.
Didn't see anyone askin for the accounts on any other server I played that was taking donations, unless they thought something dodgy happening and then they just left.

On OS i was just creation, bit of balancing here and there, bit of unbalancing too, lol.
I didn't touch the financial side of things. Ben did all of those things, he was much more involved than me and also a lot more consistent.

The only reason I asked is because the members of this forum took a very harsh stance against donation based servers in the past.
And the admin and many of this forum came to the conclusion that the "F2P & Game Shop" model was the Cancer of Mir.
Considering their positions on this forum I am wondering if they will practice what they preach(ed).

I'm not involved with the Server so can't speak for them but opinions and stances change. I was always (and still am) against server creators whose sole purpose was to make money to the point were they'd shut down and quickly create another cash grab server. Those are the cancer of Mir. A server funding itself and generating some profit is not. I don't think LOMCN has ever fought against a server like that and certainly none of the Chronicles Team has (so no double standards there)

Note that we self funded AceV1 mostly cause of me. I didn't really care about making money on the server. We could afford to fund it so we did. That's not the case for Chronicles I believe hence the GameShop. I know Sam will be mostly happy if the Dedi is paid for monthly and the team gets a bit of cash to take home for the work they've put in.

By the way your example for targets (and give money back to people who donated if you go over target) is crazy and unworkable. A monthly quota limit would make sense and stop donations after that but it's hardly required.

Also if you stopped once the monthly quote was filled what would happen if month 2 not enough people donated?
IMO it should not be capped until the yearly cost is made then that is reopened 2 months or so before the start of the new year.

I believe that all Mir servers will be short lived if the admin have the attitude that "donation" is some sort of exchange. when in reality you should receive nothing for a donation. You're just swapping the words BUY and DONATE.

What I will suggest is that I pay the entire years dedi. Then anyone who feels like donating can send £1 to Milo via paypal. Once the amount I donated is reached, you return my lump sum and the issue is put to bed.

But can we all stop pretending the Game Shop isn't a "shop"?

Also, Milo, why did you leave the team, you are the most reasonable & emotionally stable admin/mod on this forum, pure professionalism, I want to buy you dinner and talk about the last 6 episodes of Evangelion. sigh.

Judging by the forum it sounds like Samuel won't be able to play much so I think expecting him & his team to maintain a server with everything that entails & quite frankly put up with some of the whiny little bitches & complete bell-ends from the Mir community without making a profit is probably asking too much.

Obviously if it is to be non-profit then I'm impressed and maximum respect to all involved, but I'm fully expecting a profit to be made & their's nothing wrong with that... I just hope it's not a "You fill my bank account & I'll fill your inventory." deal.

There is no plan to cap donations.

Sam

Is there a list on what's going to be in the game shop?

Thank you is the least I can say.

Don't forget to thank Sam, Chilipepper & Hazuki too, they helped fund the server too with me

Personally I think it's just semantics, donation is the word everyone uses but in reality GameShop as a standard F2P system in MMO's. You're not donating you're paying for GameGold that can be used to purchase a certain number of items in-game. Everyone calls it donations for Mir anyway so it stuck. Sam and the team could just not use the word and nothing would change. But don't get me wrong you are right. You're not donating you're buying GameGold. I just don't see the reason or need to change the wording of it.

I quit truthfully cause I couldn't handle it and couldn't for 3-4 months before I eventually quit. I loved working on Mir but I was working long hours at the time, coming home late & eating some dinner before getting an hour or two on my Laptop. And for what really? So people could critique every aspect, people who'd expect things fixed same day with compensation. The constant arguments about balance. The bickering in the old team etc

But don't get me wrong I don't blame anyone, AceV1 was a broken server from day one and the decision to turn it in a longer term server was my mistake . We seen the Usercount and thought we could provide a great server for people to play that wouldn't be pay2win. But AceV1 wasn't designed to run long term, exp was too high and the server envir just wasn't balanced.

Chronicles is the result of that massive learning experience and Sam has managed to build a great Team and an awesome set of files with the extra time. I'm looking forward to playing it as a normal player.

'Donating' isn't exactly the correct reference to use in terms of mir anyway as technically your not donating, your a buyer if you are receiving something in return for your cash.

Wasn't "the word" initially used as some form of protection from Wemade lawyers back in the day, as you couldn't make money from a private server (although, private servers themselves were illegal) but "the word" some how made people think they were immune from prosecution.

At this stage Wemade/Shada etc have no interest in Europe, after multiple failed attempts to penetrate the market and the results of there hard work is a (while dedicated) population of less than 1,000 in a genre with tens of millions... I'm pretty sure people are able to say "Purchase" now.
