car provisional is 17

you can get a provisional liscence at 15 for a moped, but its only got moped entitlement on it. Im not sure if that same liscence can be used for a car when you hit 17 or wether you need to upgrade it.

However i do recall somewhere on the application for you can specify for your liscence to only include something (but im not sure if its to exclude motorbike entitlement from a car one, or car entitlement for a moped one)

Im a bit confused huh ... can someone just confirm this (someone that actually owns a car please and has a driving licence).

1. What age can you get your provisional? (my friends said they got their yet they are 16).
2. What age can you legaly drive (not with provisional) so real driving licence?
3. And if its 17, does this mean that you can only drive certain cars?
4. Is it true that if you want to ensure your car, but they see you as being young they will charge you more??

1. Age to use a provisional for car is 17. You can apply a month or so before your 17 though.
2. 17
3. You can drive all as far as im aware. The only problem is insurance, alot of insurance companies wont insure you on certain cars (fast ones mainly).
4. You mean Insure not ensure? Insurance on cars for younger people is really expensive, all depends on engine size, car type, BHP, modifications etc.

When you buy your first car a 1.2 is the best to go for, they are generally regard as the "safe" bet among young drivers. The reason being many people who buy a 1.0 litre will generally floor it when showing off and lose control etc, because the casr is not built to be floored, and ranted and basically raped while being driven.

With 1.2l the power is there, and they handle the speed a bit better because the engine is opeating within its basic limits.

The absolute best car to own at the moment in terms of performance and insurance costs is a 1.2l Renault Clio from 1997-1999. I managed to get mine indured for the first year for £700 and its now down to £390 for my second year on it (RAC for insurance). But note that i have been driving for 2 1/2 years now and have 1 years no-claims bonus.

If you do your pass-plus (6 lessons at a cost of about £120 - and no test) most insurers will give you the equivelent discount of 1 years no claims. Depending on your driving instructor, you can pay some a bit less, say £90 for the certificate itself, and not actually take the 6 additional lessons. Obviously if you go for a large company like BSM or something, your not going to get this.

I was paying £135 a month on my 1.2i clio.

Will be paying £1400 a year on a 1.4 MG ZR, with 1 years no claims.

You can get your provisional (For a car) 3 months before your 17th birthday. You cannot take your theory test untill you are 17, you cannot take your driving test untill you have passed your theory test.

I had about 20-25 lessons (once a week) and i passed my test first time (passed theory first time because its piss).

The waiting time for tests in my area was stupid (because i was one of the youngest of my age band (school wise), my birthday is in August, everyone started booking there tests before i was ready so when i was ready the wait was about 2-3 months.

bottom line is if you have just passed your driving test you wont be able to get insured on it as it has alot of BHP (240 i think ), fast 0-60 time and high top end 150 mph i think all these things you have to take in to account when trying to get insurance on a car

i passed my theory and practical test first time easy stuff. and when im 21 im going for my bike licence aswell........

You wouldnt get insurance by a normal insurer at your age with that car, you would have to go to a specialist i think and i imagine it would cost you more than what the car cost.
